Who are we

We are a bunch of folks from all over the world that like to get together and chat on IRC. Just like your local pub, our channel is a gathering place for a cross section of folks. Some of us are students, some are retired, some are young folks raising their families. Every imaginable occupation is represented, from Attorneys to Zoologists, and we even have a token Librarian or two. :) Back to FAQ List

What do we do
We do what most folks do on IRC...Chat! We tell jokes, share things going on in our lives, and get to know each other. Occasionally some of us fly all over the planet to get together and party! And on rare occasions, romances bloom and yes, some have even gotten married! Back to FAQ List

Channel rules
Yeah, rules. Why do we have them Because this is a family place. We want folks to feel welcome and want to come back. When you first enter the channel, our channel bot will tell you the rules. In order for #pub to be a pleasant and fun place for everyone there are certain things we don't allow in here:

1. Swearing, or using any language that can be construed as vulgar, insulting or obscene is not allowed.
2. Rudeness/Arguing is not allowed (We will ask you to take it private and if you don't you will be kicked).
3. Advertising of or Invites to another channel are not allowed.
4. Racial slurs are not allowed.
5. Offensive nicks are not allowed (If you come to #pub using one, you will be asked to change it, failure to comply will result in your being kicked.
6. Lurking is not allowed, unless you are marked "/away".
7. If you are in a "perv" channel while in #pub, you will be kicked.
8. Flooding in the channel is not allowed (sending the same line to channel repetitively)
9. Don't ask for Ops!! (The selection of who has Ops is solely the perogative of the the Channel Manager)
10. If your behaviour warrants a kick/ban, by an op, you need to speak directly to that op, don't whine to others about it.

Channel Etiquette
What? I can't eat spagetti with a spoon? or slurp my soup? Consider the channel to be just like someone's home. Show respect for others that are there, and for the channel. Hang around a while, participate in the discussion. Get a feel for the place, and the people that are in channel. Each of us brings a different perspective to the channel. If you aren't into what is being discussed at the moment, hang around a bit...it will likely launch off on a totally different direction! Ladyej is our Madam of Manners...so direct any questions about this stuff to her.Back to FAQ List

Channel Mailing List
We have a channel mail list. And it's fully automated. All you have to do is subscribe to the mail list, and then whenever anyone sends email to dapub, it's automatically forwarded to everyone on the list, including yourself!. If you want to subscribe to the mailing list, read Your mail to dapub-request. You may want to print it out for future reference. If you still have questions, Aarn is our resident expert and mailing list guru...feel free to ask him.Back to FAQ List
