Yahoo Picks of the Week, 3 May 1999 http://au.yahoo.com/picks/

Ever felt that our native fauna just doesn't cut it in the entertainment stakes? How often do you see a possum frolicking in the sun? Or a wallaby cavorting up a tree? Never? Exactly. Well, there's a movement afoot to solve this problem -- by encouraging migration of that furry little cutie, the American squirrel, down under. Apparently there's a strong opinion that our native furries are a little on the shy and nocturnal side for us humans to really enjoy their company. The Squirrels for Australia movement just might have the answer. Visit their site and get a feel for their policies and their fight against specism ... even our PM John Howard has an opinion on the matter. You can make a real difference in this fight by pledging as many nuts as you can to the cause and by spreading the message. And remember, "Australians have a right to have squirrels!"

6 May 1999...too crazy to believe...

This actually appears on USAToday's Hot Sites...

And the winner in this week's "Huh?" category: Some people devote their lives to saving the whales, or dolphins or such -- but these, ahem, self-declared activists are dedicated to introducing the "cute and cuddly" North American Fox Squirrel to the Australian continent. And you are invited to "join our fight!" http://www.thegates.com/sfa/
